Regarding where I stand on issues, I start with my main priorities
1) Smarter investment in people already living here
(so as to properly train and skill local jobseekers, utilise untapped skills of pensioners and current immigrants, and reduce reliance on high immigration levels)
2) More accessibility and supply of affordable homes
(by utilising our existing homes which lie derelict or empty, instead of just building more homes on scarce land)
3) Better planning to make Australia grow sustainably
(with the appropriate transport, electricity, water, recycling, tax, and social infrastructure to meet our future needs)
POSITIONS ON VARIOUS ISSUES
COST OF LIVING There is no "silver bullet" to reducing the cost of living. No change can make an immediate difference. However, some small steps can be taken as a starting point, with other measures to follow.
HOUSING Australia faces a housing crisis. But it requires a variety of approaches, instead of just building more and more homes, on what is already scarce land.
UNEMPLOYMENT The unemployment benefit, known as JobSeeker, has sat at less than $56 per day for years, and it needs raising. Even prominent economists and business leaders have said that it is too low.
ENERGY The only way to lower the cost of electricity bills is to boost the supply of energy. While transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable sources makes sense, it requires a better approach.
POPULATION AND IMMIGRATION Australia has a very fragile environment, highly vulnerable to overpopulation and urban sprawl. Excessive population growth causes loss of green space, forests, habitat, and farmland.
SKILLS Employers and governments insist that we are short of skilled workers. But in reality, we have a massive pool of talent, and potential talent, which we consistently overlook.
